An alcoholic distillate obtained from a fermented mash of grains such as barley, rye or corn. There are many varieties of whiskey -- or whisky, as it's spelled in Scotland and Canada. Many factors including the water, type of grain, how the grain is treated and processed and the aging affect the final result. Among the more popular whiskies are Bourbon, Canadian Whisky, Irish Whiskey, Rye and Scotch.

Whisky (or whiskey) is the name for a broad category of alcoholic beverages distilled from grains, that are subsequently aged in oak casks. The grains used to make various types of whisky include barley, malted barley, rye, malted rye, wheat, and maize/corn.
