Thick 'n' Sweet Barbecue Sauce
1/2 cup chopped onion 1 garlic clove, minced 1/4 cup vegetable oil 1 can tomato sauce (8 oz) 1/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar 1 1/2 t. grated lemon rind 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice 2 T. Worcestershire sauce 2 T. prepared mustard 1 T. chopped fresh parsley
Cook onion and garlic in oil in a medium skillet over medium high heat, stirring constantly, until tender. Add tomato sauce and remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil; reduce heat, and simmer 20 minutes or until thickened, stirring often. Use as a basting sauce for burgers, chicken or ribs. Makes 1 1/2 cups. Source: Southern Living
