Shirley's Molasses Cookies

3/4 c. shortening or hard margerine sticks 1 c. white sugar 1/4 c. green label molasses (Brier Rabbit) 1 egg 2 tsp. baking soda 2 c. sifted flour 1/2 tsp. cloves 1/2 tsp. ginger 1 tsp. cinnamon 1/2 tsp. salt

In Med. sauce pan melt shortening over low heat. Remove from heat and cool. Add sugar, molasses and egg; beating well. Sift dry ingredients and add to sugar mixture. Mix in well again. Chill. Roll into balls with a teaspoon or scoop. Roll in raw sugar. Place balls on cookie sheet 2 inches apart. Bake at 375 for 8-10 minutes. Remove to cooling rack and enjoy.
