Rustic Apple Pie with Citrus and Spice

This pie is a circle of apple slices, has no top crust, but has a bottom and part way up the side crust.

1 pie crust from a 15 oz box 3 tbs sugar 1 tsp grated lemon peel 1/4 tsp nutmeg 3 Golden Delicious apples 1 tbs butter, cut into pieces

Heat oven to 450 degrees.* Unroll pie crust into ungreased baking sheet. Mix sugar, peel and nutmeg in a cup. Sprinkle 1 tbs over crust. Peel and core apples, cut into slices. Leaving a border, arrange apple slices on crust in a circle, overlapping. Sprinkle with remaining sugar mixture, then dot with butter. Fold edges of pastry over apples, crimping dough to fit.

Bake 15 min. Reduce oven temp to 375 degrees and bake 25 min. or until apples are tender and pastry is golden. Cool. Serve warm or at room temp. SERVE WITH A SCOOP OF VANILLA ICE CREAM. Makes 8 servings of Rustic Apple Pie.*
