This is one of Bess Truman's favorite dishes. Bess Truman had a well-equipped kitchen and often prepared breakfast or lunch for her family. The Trumans also employed several African American women who cooked for the family.

Ingredients

• 8 oz macaroni
• ½ pound grated cheddar cheese
• 2 cups milk
• 1 egg
• ¼ cup oleo

Directions

1. Cook macaroni. Drain and cool.
2. Place layer of macaroni in baking
3. Dish, then add layer of cheese. Repeat layers.
4. Combine milk and egg. Pour over macaroni and cheese.
5. Dot with butter.
