  1. Heat oven to 375°F.
  2. Beat egg whites until stiff, but not dry.
  3. Fold in farina.
  4. Beat yolks until light and lemon coloured.
  5. Add flavourings.
  6. Fold into egg-white mixture and pour into 8-inch square pan.
  7. Bake for 25 minutes or until cake tests done.
  8. Remove from oven and cut in diamond-shape pieces.
  9. While cake is baking, prepare syrup by combining all syrup ingredients in a saucepan.
  10. Simmer for 15 minutes.
  11. Pour warm syrup over cake very slowly so that all syrup is absorbed by the cake.
  12. Cover with foil.
  13. Allow to cool thoroughly.
