The bienenstich is originally a German cake. The people from Limburg (which borders on Germany) have made their own version of this cake, with slightly different ingredients.

Directions[]

  1. Mix the butter, sugar, vanilla sugar, and eggs together until you have a foamy mass.
  2. Mix the flour and baking powder, and add to the mixture.
  3. Mix thoroughly.
  4. Fill 2 greased round baking tins with the mixture.
  5. Mix the hazelnuts with the butter, sugar and milk, and sprinkle them over one of the filled baking tins.
  6. Bake both cakes in the middle of a pre-heated oven at 200 °C until golden brown.
  7. Make the filling by cooking the vanilla pudding and milk, according to the directions and adding the sugar.
  8. When the pudding is cool, add the creamed butter to it and mix thoroughly.
  9. Brush the pudding mix onto the cake without the nut topping, and stick the other one on top of it.
