  1. Preheat oven to 325°F.
  2. Beat together shortening and oil until light.
  3. Gradually add orange juice and sugar, beating until well blended.
  4. Sift together baking powder, soda and all purpose flour.
  5. Add these sifted dry ingredients gradually, beating thoroughly.
  6. Add nuts and pastry flour.
  7. Knead in some of the flour if necessary on a lightly floured board.
  8. Roll into six inch long strips, one inch thick.
  9. Cut diagonally into one-inch long pieces.
  10. Place on ungreased baking sheet and bake for 30 minutes or until lightly browned.

Syrup Edit

  1. Combine ingredients in a saucepan and simmer 10 minutes.
  2. Skim and cool.
  3. Dip hot cookies in cooled syrup, using a slotted spoon.
