  1. Scald milk.
  2. Add butter and margarine and let it melt until milk is slightly cooled.
  3. Soften yeast in warm water with 1 tablespoon of sugar added.
  4. In a large bowl add remaining sugar, salt, and cardamom.
  5. Pour in lukewarm milk mixture.
  6. Add yeast, and flour to make a stiff dough.
  7. Work thoroughly.
  8. Place in a greased bowl.
  9. Cover and let rise until double in bulk.
  10. Punch down and shape into balls.
  11. Place 1 inch (2½ cm) apart on a greased baking sheet.
  12. Cover with tea towel and let rise until double in bulk.
  13. Bake in 450°F (230°C) oven for 5 minutes.
  14. Brush with butter while still hot.
