  1. Sift the flour and cut in the butter.
  2. Add the fruit, spice, peel, etc.
  3. Beat eggs.
  4. Heat Guinness or other stout and pour it over the bicarbonateof soda.
  5. Pour stout and eggs over dry ingredients.
  6. Mix well and beat for 15 minutes.
  7. Bake in a well-greased 9 by 13 pan in a moderate oven, 350 °F, for 2½ - 3 hours.
  8. Keep for a week before cutting.
  9. Enjoy.
