German Red Cabbage

1 head of red cabbage, cored and thinly sliced

1 medium onion, coarsely chopped

1 Granny Smith apple, peeled, cored and sliced

1 cup red wine

1 cup apple cider vinegar

1 cup brown sugar(packed)

1 teaspoon ground cloves

1 teaspoon salt

2 bay leaves

2 ounces butter

Combine all ingredients (except butter) in a large, heavy pot

and heat to boiling. Reduce the heat to low and cover, Simmer

for two to three hours, stirring occasionally. Just before

serving, remove the bay leaves and add the butter and stir to

coat. Serve hot,
