Fried Apples

  • 6 or 7 tart apples such as Stayman Winesap, Granny Smith, or slightly less tart and sweeter Fuji
  • 6 Tbs butter or bacon grease
  • 1 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/3 cup sugar, either regular of brown sugar
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon

Sift together sugar, nutmeg, cinnamon, and salt. Set aside.

Core apples and slice into either logitudinal sections or rings.

Heat butter or bacon grease in skillet. Spread sliced apples and half the sugar mixture evenly over apples. Cook 3 to 4 Minutes, then turn over apples and sprinkle with remainder of sugar mixture.

Cook until Apples look transparent and sugar is caramelized.
