New, World, Record, Largest, Hamburger, weighs, 777, lbs!, records, food, new world
Pleasanton, CA, July 2, 2,011 -- History was made on this day at the 99th Annual Alameda County Fair-- breaking the record for the world's largest hamburger with all the trimmings for a final weight of 777 pounds. A 10-person crew spent 13 hours of actual cooking time on the burger alone. Juicys and Ovations Food Service partnered in this enormous feat to beat the current record holder.
The former world record was 590 pounds. Guinness World Records will make the final determination.
April Mitchell, Event & Marketing Manager at the Alameda County Fair said the burger far exceeded all expectations, "It was a wonderful event shared by the community." Enthusiastic patrons waited patiently until the burger was cooked to acceptable doneness --according to health official's standards-- which is an internal temperature of 160 degrees.
Partners in the effort include Athens Bakery and Bay City Scale. Sold for $.99 per bite, proceeds from all sales will benefit the Alameda County Community Food Bank.
