Cheesy Cornmeal Dumplings
Good droped on Pot of Beans,Chilli,Soup and Stews.
List of Ingredients
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup (2 ounces) shredded cheddar cheese
1/3 cup yellow cornmeal
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon black pepper
1 large egg, beaten
2 tablespoons milk
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
In a medium mixing bowl stir together the flour, cheese,
cornmeal, baking powder, salt and pepper.
Combine egg, milk and oil; add to flour mixture. Stir with a
fork just until combined.
Drop Cheesy Cornmeal Dumplings by tablespoonfuls onto simmering
chili,beans,soup or stew. Cover and simmer about 20 minutes more
or until a wooden pick inserted into dumpling comes out clean.
3 tablespoons of shortening
1 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons of baking powder
3/4 teaspoon of salt
3/4 cup of milk
Cut shortening into flour, baking powder and salt with pastry
blender until mixture resembles fine crumbs. Stir in milk. Drop
dough by spoonfuls onto hot meat or vegetables in boiling stew
(do not drop directly into liquid). Cook uncovered 10 minutes.
Cover and cook 10 minutes longer. 10 dumplings,
