The western part of Romania has always been the entry point for much of Europe’s culture. Naturally, the culinary trends of central and western Europe are best reflected here, in Transylvania, a land that was made famous because of it’s legends (Dracula should ring a bell as this is the first element of identification for many foreigners, when it comes to this region). Under German and Hungarian occupation for extended periods of time, Transylvania adopted some of the cooking styles of its occupants. Dishes like garlic soup or the use of spices such as paprika are specific to this region of Romania. Transylvania is also among the first regions to adapt to the latest European trends, a fact that is promptly reflected in its cuisine.
