Thai food, by its normal nature, consists of mixed dishes prepared in small quantities and served in rather interesting combinations of flavors. Also, having a Thai meal means you will be served several types of meal instead of a single one that would not have more than just one side dish, which of course is not mandatory at all. So you may think you are having more than just one appetizer instead of a meal consisting in a second course and a desert. Because of the abundance of tastes, some of the appetizers have a sweet taste, being a good replacement for a dessert.

Depending on the country regions, you may see Thai food served and eaten without the help of any cutlery. Making rice balls with your hands is a normal thing in the northern parts of Thailand, dipping them afterwards into the specific sauces.
