The Slovak cuisine is not rich in recipes based on vegetables and fruits. People in Slovakia have developed a cooking style based predominantly on meat. The cabbage and the potatoes are the main ingredients of the few vegetarian recipes. It is so difficult to believe that there are persons that do not consume meat, due to their health problems or to their diets, that some of the Slovaks would recommend to the vegetarians their best known traditional dish, bryndzové halušky, although even this one contains bacon and pork fat. The fried cheese, known under the name of vyprážaný syr should be appreciated by the persons that don't consume meat, while the vegans can choose from many types of dishes based on cabbage. The foods that use this vegetable as their main ingredient range from salads to main dishes, such as soups.
