The salads are served simultaneously with the meat dishes. Though they do not have a great popularity in the Slovak cuisine, there exist a few recipes. The ingredients that are used most frequently are: cabbage, lettuce and tomatoes. The red cabbage salad that is representative for Slovakia is named šalát z červenej kapusty. This dish contains for sure fresh cabbage, since this vegetable can be found all the year. The Slovak sauerkraut is another famous salad, along with hlávkový šalát s paradajkami, which is a salad based on tomatoes and lettuce.
