When you visit a Kyrgyz house you are served first of all with an appetizer. There are a variety of appetizers that are usually served with tea. The most popular appetizers are Atkanchoy usually served with butter, kaymak , dried fruits, honey and a type of bread named katama. Goshkiyda which is actually dough balls with minced meat and samsa which is pasties of unleavened dough and pork filling are usually served with tea. Another type of appetizer is the so called khoshan made from a mixture of leavened or unleavened dough filled with meat and fried in boiling sheep’s tail fat.
