The Jamaican cuisine has been influenced, over the centuries, by civilization from America, Europe, Asia and Africa. The fact that helped it to gain and to maintain its individuality, resumes to the presence of some unique ingredients. Before the appearence of the people from the other continents, the inhabitants of Jamaica had their own cooking methods and specific recipes, based on the local ingredients. These techniques have been inhanced, in time, as the visiting civilizations implemented various cooking concepts. The multitude of the ingredients generated a great diversity of the Jamaican foods. Now, the Jamaican cuisine contains recipes for preparing anything, from appetizers and snacks to soups, salads, meat dishes and desserts.
