Among the most famous Guatemalan deserts, the flans, fried closed pies, and plantains are very delicious choices. Buneulos (Yuca fritters), Flans (Caramel Custards), Platanos en Tentacion (Plantains glazed with caramel), Manjar (Cornstarch pudding), Plátanos al Horno (Baked sweet plantains), Plátanos en Mole (Plantains in chocolate-chipotle sauce) and Rellenitos de Plátano (Mashed plantain filled with black beans) are most representative for Guatemalan desserts. Flan de Naranja (Orange-Flavored Flan) and Platanos en Tentacion (Plantains glazed with caramel) are usually served with different kind of ice-creams. Profiteroles and ice-cream topped with chocolate sauce, and bananas with chilled-spiked chocolate sauce are common desserts as well.
Guatemalans prepare sometimes desserts at home, especially stuffed pies which can be either fried, or baked. The filling usually consists of fruit-jams or vanilla pudding.
There are also many sweet drinks that stand for a great lighter dessert. Liqueurs and shakes are very much liked by Guatemalans as well as other exotic cocktails with added sugar and whip-cream.
