Drum stick or Ridge Gourd (Turai) Curry - Neethu Edit


  • 3 drumsticks, Slightly peeled and cut in fingers
  • 1/2 cup soaked Gram Dal (Channa Dal)
  • 1 onion finely chopped
  • 1 tsp. Ginger & Garlic paste
  • 1 large or 2 small tomatoes chopped
  • 11/2 tsp. kashmiri chilli powder
  • 3 tsp. coriander seed powder
  • 1/2 tsp. turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp. garam masala powder
  • 1 tbsp. coriander leaves finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp. curd
  • 1 long red chilli cut in pieces
  • 1/2 tsp.mustard seeds
  • 3 tbsp. oil
  • 1 or 2 tsp Ghee
  • 6-7 powdered cashew
  • 1 lemon


  1. Cook the soaked dal in 2 cups of water for 15-20 mins. Add 1/4tsp turmeic and 1tsp salt.
  2. In a large fry pan pour 3 tbsp. oil and fry chopped onion with the ginger & garlic paste. Fry until the onion turns pink then add curd and fry for 1-2 mins
  3. Add powdered coriander seeds, red chhili, 1/4tsp. garam masala, 1/4 tsp. turmeric, chasew and fry till oil separates.
  4. Add salt to taste
  5. Add tomatoes and fry again till the oil separates
  6. Add drumsticks to it and and fry with the masala for 2-3 mins
  7. Add the cooked dal along with the water in the dal
  8. Add remaining garam masala and cook for 15mins and take of from the fire
  9. Pour the curry into serving dish
  10. In a small pan heat 1tsp ghee and add mustrad seed and red chilli, allow to splutter
  11. Pour it to on the curry and garnish it with the colriander leaves and lemon pieces
  12. Instead of Drumsticks you may use Ridge Gourd (Loofah/Turai)
