Many Columbian desserts are thick milk based sweets. A traditional Columbian dessert is represented by arequipe: milk, sugar, egg yolks and cinnamon are mixed in a saucepan, but this composition must be mixed for almost 5 hours with a wooden spoon. A similar milky dessert, but which takes less time to prepare is the natilla, which has the same ingredients, plus shredded coconut and cornstarch. Enyucado is another milk based dessert, which also includes white cheese, anise, yucca and coconut. Cheese is also included in the Columbian pecan dainties, which are made of a crust and a filling. The crust contains cheese, butter and flour and the filling is prepared with beaten eggs, brown sugar, vanilla, pecans and softened butter. The droughts are prepared in Columbia with white cheese, corn starch (instead of regular flour), eggs and sugar. Mantecada is a butter based dessert, which also includes yellow corn flower and aguardiente or rum.
