The Cameroonian cuisine was exposed for a long time to European cuisine. This is why appetizers became a part a complete meal in the cuisine of Cameroon. Below you can see some traditional Cameroonian recipes for appetizers.

Blue-Coconut Jolofe Rice is a simple yet tasty dish. It is made using onion, peanut oil, tomatoes, tomato puree, coconut milk, carrots, long-grain rice and mushrooms. The seasonings for this appetizer include ginger, bay leaf, green pepper and hot pepper.

Mbongo Tchobi is a delicious appetizer made by mixing carps or eels with onions, garlic, tomato and djanssan, adding the spices of mbongo and water and boiling the mixture over low heat for 30 minutes. The sauce resulted shouldn’t be very thick.

To make Sese Plantains (another traditional appetizer), you have to boil 2 large green plantains with tomatoes, pepper and onion and then add palm oil and simmer for at least 5 minutes. Before serving this dish it is a good idea to sprinkle it with roasted cashew nuts.

The recipe for Ginger Juice Appetizer is a very simple one and it will not take much time to prepare. You need ginger, milk, sugar and green lemon. You mix the ginger with milk, green lemon juice and sugar. This appetizer can be served with fried ripe plantain.
