At the end of World War II, Britain only counted 100,000 vegetarians end ever since, their number increased. In the 1990's, when Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy crisis overwhelmed Britain, even more people turned to this healthier cooking style. In 2003 the statistics showed a number of nearly 4 million vegans and a total of 7 million that declared that don't eat red meat. Vegetarian ingredients and products are easily found in every British shop or restaurant. The most common British foods that are entirely based on non-animal products are:

  • Fig and Walnut Mince Pies
  • Devilled Mushrooms on Toasted Ciabatta
  • Egg and Cress Sandwiches
