Appetizers represent an important component of Australian meals. Mostly, they consist of meat prepared in various ways (sausages, ham), cheese, eggs, vegetables and even fruits. It is quite common to see appetizers made from seafood. As appetizers are served in advance of the main dishes, which are usually based on meat, the purpose of appetizers is to amplify the desire for food. This goal is achieved with the usage of spices and of ingredients with a high consistency. Some common Australian appetizers are: Sausage Rolls, Dim sims, Savoury Puffs, Savoury Dips, Welsh Rarebit, Smoked Salmon Roulade and Salmon Mousse.
