From Recipes Wiki, the recipe book anyone can contribute to!
Finding the ingredients for an Algerian Recipe is not so easy when you do not know the names of the ingredients. Take time to make a list of ingredients and the name they may be found under at the Local Markets. You may have to look and ask questions the first few times if you are unfamiliar with ingredient names.
If you do know the names of the ingredients in English Algerian ingredients are easy to find wherever Mediterranean ingredients are sold. Since Mediterranean cuisines are very popular in the States, the U.K. and Australia, finding Algerian ingredients should be accessible in these regions.
Olives, capers, figs, dates, citrus, olive oil, etc... are typical Algerian ingredients. Durum wheat semolina flour can be found in gourmet food sections, Italian, and Greek grocery stores for example.
A lot of the spices used in Algerian cooking are available at national grocery stores, Whole Foods Market, etc... even Trader Joe's carries saffron and cumin.
In areas without Algerian or North African stores- Middle Eastern and South Asian stores are also very good choices for buying a range of spices. Another option is to look in the Mexican or Latin section of grocery stores for spices.
