The bergamot orange also spelled Citrus aurantium, is a citrus fruit, small and roughly pear shaped. The fruit which is produced in Italy, is a cross between the pear lemon and the Seville orange or grapefruit.

The fruit is sour, and its aromatic peel is used to produce an essential oil that is used in Earl Grey tea, in perfumery, and in aromatherapy to treat depression. It is as well used as a digestive aid. Bergamot was also used as a component of the original Eau de Cologne produced in Germany in the 17th century.

Bergamot also is an aromatic herb grown in America which has pink, red or purple flowers and smells pleasantly of oranges.This plant is a perennial that grows better in soil that stays damp in the summer and which prefer the sun. The fresh young leaves are used in salads, fruit salads and fruit drinks, but can be also used to make a refreshing and relaxing tea or to make facial steam from leaves. Bergamot is an aromatic fruits very important for its oil which is used in medicine to treat easy illness.
