A fresh, divine alternative to the original bagel, this extraordinary, toasty sandwich is packed with real cheese and tomatoes and maintains a crisp taste with the bagels. Basil sometimes works for this for garnishing, too.
- 5 fresh bagels
- 5 tomato slices
- 5 cheese slices cheese (Cheddar, Colby, Parmesan, Provolone, or Swiss)
- basil leaves, optional
- Cut each bagel in half and arrange tomatoes on one slice and cheese on the other.
- Place on the cooking sheet and broil in an oven until cheese is melted.
- Remove from the oven and put the bagel sandwich together. Serve hot and plain or with other side dishes or appetizers and garnish with the basil leaves, if desired.
